LGBTQIA+
People who identify as LGBTQIA+ experience disproportionate levels of suicide and self-harming behaviors. Our research seeks to better understand why this disproportionate risk occurs. We also test whether and how intersections across multiple minority identities impact risk. From there, we build on this work to create and test inclusive and effective treatment and prevention programs.
UNDERSTANDING SUICIDE
Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death among youth in the US, and many non-fatal suicidal and nonsuicidal self-harming behaviors begin during this period. Our research seeks to better understand why the teenage years are a time of heightened risk using experimental and longitudinal research methods. Because traditional forms of psychological treatment are inaccessible to many, we then leverage this work to design and test brief & accessible online treatment and prevention programs.
